  7.         SPEECH  is  NOT  a  public  domain  or  free program! It is
  8.   being distributed  as  Shareware.    The  Association  of
  9.   Shareware Professionals (ASP) offers the following definition of
  10.   Shareware:

  12.         Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  13.   before  buying  it.   If  you  try  a Shareware program and
  14.   continue using it, you are expected to register. Individual
  15.   programs differ on details  --  some  request  registration
  16.   while  others  require  it,  some  specify  a maximum trial
  17.   period.  With  registration,  you  get  anything  from  the
  18.   simple  right  to continue using the software to an updated
  19.   program with printed manual.

  21.         Copyright laws  apply  to  both  Shareware  and  commercial
  22.   software,  and  the  copyright  holder  retains all rights,
  23.   with a few specific exceptions as stated below.   Shareware
  24.   authors  are accomplished programmers, just like commercial
  25.   authors, and the programs are of comparable  quality.
  26.   (In both cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main
  27.   difference  is  in  the method of distribution.  The author
  28.   specifically grants the right to copy  and  distribute  the
  29.   software,  either to all and sundry or to a specific group.
  30.   For example, some authors require written permission before
  31.   a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  33.         So, Shareware is a  distribution  method,  not  a  type  of
  34.   software.  You  should  find software that suits your needs
  35.   and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or Shareware.   The
  36.   Shareware  system  makes fitting your needs easier, because
  37.   you can try before you buy. And  because  the  overhead  is
  38.   low,  prices  are  low  also.   Shareware  has the ultimate
  39.   money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the  product,  you
  40.   don't pay for it.

  42.         Registration  licenses  you  to  use  SPEECH  Version 1.0,
  43.   and all future 1.x updates.  Any unregistered use other than trial
  44.   use to determine if SPEECH meets your needs is a violation of our
  45.   license agreement and is forbidden.

  47.         Single  user  registration  is  available  for  $19.95  per
  48.   copy.  Registered users will be sent the  most  current  version
  49.   of  the program  and a printed reference guide. Registration also
  50.   entitles you to free telephone support and free 1.x updates.

  52.         The SPEECH software license authorizes use of one copy  of
  53.   SPEECH on  one machine  at  a  time.  If  you  have  multiple
  54.   computers, either standalone, networked, or multi-user, you  need
  55.   to  register one copy of SPEECH for each workstation on which it
  56.   will be used.
